Flu season is in full swing these year and as a mother, my daughter is my biggest concern and priority. It seems as though I can’t turn on the TV without hearing about the flu right now. There is a record number of people getting sick with and also children dying from the flu. I immediately start checking my daughter asking her how she feels, while simultaneously calculating in my mind how much longer flu season is and wondering if we should move to a deserted island for the remainder of the season!
The flu shot is definitely the most talked and I’m not here to debate whether the flu vaccination of effective or not. I will tell you that my daughter had all of her shots on a delayed schedule, but we have never been a family who felt the flu shot was right for us. However, it is important to do research and make decisions based on calculated and educated facts.
Now moving along to other ideas you can do to help prevent the flu, no matter if you got the vaccination or not.
Apple Cider Vinegar: I have always been a big believer in this little wonder of nature! ACV is actually from fermented apples or cider! I always buy Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar because it is organic but it also is “with the Mother.” Now with the mother means the vinegar still has the culture of the bacteria that causes apple cider to turn into vinegar. This is the vinegar that is a little cloudy looking.
I take a shot ( 1 teaspoons) 2 times a day. First thing when i wake up, and right before bed. ACV helps to alkaline the body which help the body be able to fight off colds and viruses. I really swear by ACV, it is a staple into my home.
Antibacterial All Purpose Cleaner: I LOVE this brand Method All Purpose Cleaner I love the mission of the company, their values and when I spend my money on something thats business practices are inlined with my views, well thats just a win win! I seriously walk around my house 1st thing in the morning, and last thing at night using this cleaner to wipe down the door handles, keys, counters, light switches, remotes and anywhere else we touch a lot in the day.
Put Your Kids in the Shower 1st Thing : When my daughter walks into the door from school I make her go straight away to the shower during cold and flu season. I take her clothes and put them directly into the hamper.
Hand Sanitizer and Hand Washing: I have a little hand sanitizer on my daughters backpack and I think I have trained her pretty well on using it through out her day. As soon as I pick her up from school we use the hand sanitizer. If she has after school activities I have her use the hand sanitizer again before we get home. Proper hand washing is just so important even outside of cold and flu seasons. Most people don’t actually wash their hands properly. You have to spend at least 20 seconds washing your hands and form a good lather. I don’t use the air dryers in public restrooms as I have been horrified by studies I have seen that show what is going with bacteria inside the little air ducts. If there is no paper towels I let them air dry.
There is really no for sure 100% method to prevent getting the flu, but it doesn’t hurt to try your best from preventing the flu. What are some of your routines for preventing the flu in your homes?
